Absolute Lymphocyte Count (ALC)

Calculates the absolute number of lymphocytes per microliter of blood from WBC count and lymphocyte percentage.

Warnings:
  • Normal ranges vary by laboratory and patient population
  • Lymphopenia is common in COVID-19, HIV, malnutrition, autoimmune disease, and post-chemotherapy
  • ALC/AMC ratio (absolute lymphocyte/monocyte ratio) has prognostic value in lymphoma
  • Low ALC is associated with poorer prognosis in various cancers
  • Result should be interpreted alongside clinical context and other CBC parameters
Note: Normal adult ALC: approximately 1000-4800 cells/uL. For SI units (x10^9/L): ALC = WBC (x10^9/L) x (Lymphocyte % / 100).
Total WBC count. If reported as x10^9/L, multiply by 1000 to get cells/uL
Percentage of lymphocytes from differential count
