*Stage 1 requires additional markers of kidney damage (albuminuria, etc.)
Calculation Methods
CKD-EPI 2021 (Race-Free)
The current standard for CKD detection and staging. Eliminates race-based coefficients. Output normalized to 1.73m² body surface area. Recommended by KDIGO and NIDDK.
Cockcroft-Gault
Traditional formula primarily used for medication dosing adjustments. Estimates creatinine clearance (CrCl), not eGFR. Not adjusted for body surface area. May overestimate in obesity.
