⚠️ Warnings & Contraindications
- High-dose recommended for AOM, especially in children <2 years or with severe symptoms
- Diarrhea is common due to clavulanate component; consider switching to amoxicillin alone if appropriate
- Avoid 875mg/125mg tablets in children <40 kg
- Contraindicated in patients with history of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction with amox-clav
- For penicillin-allergic patients, use alternative antibiotics
ℹ️ Clinical Notes
Common suspension: 400mg/57mg per 5mL (ES-600) or 200mg/28.5mg per 5mL. The 90 mg/kg/day amoxicillin dosing is for the amoxicillin component only. Clavulanate maximum is approximately 6.4 mg/kg/day to reduce GI side effects.
