⚠️ Warnings & Contraindications
- Not first-line for AOM; reserve for penicillin-allergic patients or failed first-line therapy
- Causes red/orange discoloration of stool (benign)
- Iron supplements and antacids reduce absorption - separate by 2 hours
- Cross-allergy with penicillins approximately 5-10%
- Not effective against H. influenzae and M. catarrhalis as reliably as amoxicillin-clavulanate
ℹ️ Clinical Notes
Suspension: 125mg/5mL, 250mg/5mL. Capsules: 300 mg. Can be given once daily (14 mg/kg) or divided BID (7 mg/kg). 5-day course may be adequate for uncomplicated AOM.
