⚠️ Warnings & Contraindications

  • May prolong QT interval; avoid with other QT-prolonging drugs
  • Suspension has better bioavailability than tablets in children
  • Can cause taste disturbance (bitter aftertaste)
  • Drug interactions via CYP3A4 inhibition (increases levels of many drugs)
  • For pertussis, treat within 3 weeks of cough onset for microbiological clearance
  • Not first-line for AOM; reserve for penicillin-allergic patients

ℹ️ Clinical Notes

Suspension: 125mg/5mL, 250mg/5mL. Tablets: 250 mg, 500 mg. Can be taken with food to reduce GI upset. For H. pylori, used in combination with amoxicillin and PPI.
