⚠️ Warnings & Contraindications
- Not as effective as PPIs for severe GERD or erosive esophagitis
- Tachyphylaxis (tolerance) may develop with prolonged use
- Reduce dose in renal impairment (CrCl <50)
- May increase gastric bacterial colonization
- Headache, dizziness, and constipation are common side effects
- May mask symptoms of acute gastroenteritis
ℹ️ Clinical Notes
Suspension: 40mg/5mL. Tablets: 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg. IV formulation: 20 mg/2mL. Can be given without regard to meals. Less CNS penetration than cimetidine (fewer mental status changes).
