- Contraindicated in dehydration, renal disease, or viral illness with GI symptoms
- May cause GI bleeding, ulcers, and kidney damage
- Avoid in chickenpox (varicella) due to risk of severe skin infections
- May trigger asthma in aspirin-sensitive children
- Monitor for signs of overdose: vomiting, abdominal pain, drowsiness, tinnitus
ℹ️ Clinical Notes
Infant drops (50 mg/1.25 mL) and children's suspension (100 mg/5 mL) are different concentrations - verify product before dosing. OTC ibuprofen max 1200 mg/day; prescription strength may go up to 2400 mg/day under medical supervision.
