Clinical indication

⚠️ Warnings & Contraindications

  • Increased risk of GI infections (C. difficile, pneumonia) with prolonged use
  • May affect absorption of iron, calcium, vitamin B12
  • Increased fracture risk with long-term high-dose use
  • Not routinely recommended for uncomplicated infant GERD/spitting up
  • Do NOT crush delayed-release pellets - may be sprinkled on soft food
  • Rebound acid hypersecretion may occur after discontinuation

ℹ️ Clinical Notes

Delayed-release capsules: 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg. Oral suspension can be compounded (2 mg/mL). Powder for suspension (Zegerid): 20 mg, 40 mg packets. Take before meals. Lansoprazole and esomeprazole are alternative PPIs with pediatric formulations.
