⚠️ Warnings & Contraindications

  • FDA does NOT recommend OTC cough/cold products (including pseudoephedrine) for children <2 years
  • Many manufacturers voluntarily do not recommend for children <4-6 years
  • Side effects: insomnia, irritability, tachycardia, hypertension
  • Contraindicated in hypertension, heart disease, hyperthyroidism, MAO inhibitor use
  • Can be used to manufacture methamphetamine - purchase restrictions apply in many countries
  • Not effective for viral URI congestion in young children

Liquid: 15 mg/5 mL, 30 mg/5 mL. Tablets: 30 mg, 60 mg. ER tablets: 120 mg, 240 mg. Limited evidence for efficacy in children under 6 years. Saline nasal spray/drops, humidifier, and nasal suction are preferred first-line for infants and young children.
